A Beacon of Hope - Devika Saju

What defines life as comely? Is it prosperity? Is it accomplishments? Albeit those are paramount in our lives, there are certain things which are worth more than it. Achievements and prosperity will only bring us a short-term jubilance, but love and allegiance will last longer, giving us a long-term sense of fulfillment. Having a positive posture to competitions is more paramount than victoriously triumphing. In 1936, Adolf Hitler considered the Olympics as a chance to demonstrate Aryan preponderation. Jesse Owens, an African American athlete found that the situation was arduous. Owens’ focus had shifted after considering Luz Long. He became exasperated and fouled on his first and second jump in trials. Luz Long understood that Owens was making mistake. He verbalized with Owens and relaxed him. Soon, they became friends. Long gave him an exhortation and that led him to be a triumpher in the long jump. He prehended four medals. Likewise, is the veracity exhibited by the long-distance runner Ivan Fernantez. As he was running second, he visually perceived the Kenyan runner Abel Mutai mistakenly pull up afore ten meters before the culminating line. In lieu of exploiting the opportunity, he expeditiously caught up with him and guided him to triumph. Without Ivan Fernantez, Abel Mutai won't be able achieve this accolade. A journalist asked Ivan, “Why did you do that?” Ivan replied, “My dream is that someday we can have a kind of community life where we push and avail each other to win.” This act of Ivan Fernantez made him accoladed all over the world.

Luz Long, Jesse Owens won't be able to achieve this prosperity. If Ivan Fernandez had not availed Abel Mutai, he won't be able to be a triumpher. We all have encountered many Luz Longs in our life. They are the ones who make us who we are. Sometimes they act as a ray of hope in worst situations. They instill confidence in us and bring out best in us. They bring miracles in our life. They are authentically imprints of God. Authentically, Luz Longs who bring a beacon of hope make our life pulchritudinous.
