MIRROR - By Fathima Heena Hasmi

The only time that she remembered herself was when she saw her reflection in the ‘mirror’. She remembered her happy childhood days when she used to play with her barbie doll and shared her thoughts with it. But during each stage of her growth the society started to judge her. They found mistakes in everything that she did. There were the society’s influence behind each and everything that she did. She did her best to be an ideal teen, but no one noticed her efforts except her parents. And then she decided “let the world say whatever they want”!

And then she realised that, the first thing to do to stay happy is that to stop thinking what others say about her. The realisations that she made were: it’s okay to be imperfect, it’s okay to be independent, it’s okay to choose a different subject to study, it’s okay to choose her career by herself, it’s okay to travel alone, it’s okay to hangout with her loved ones, it’s okay to dress-up the way she wants, it’s okay to be skinny/chubby, it’s okay to be tall/short, it’s okay to have a wavy/straight hair, it’s okay to be fair/dark, it’s okay to have an unclear skin, It’s normal to be an introvert/extrovert, it’s normal to raise her voice, it’s normal to live a private life, it’s her right to choose how her life should be… And then they gave her a title: FEMINIST!

  1. YES...definitely it's OKAY to be YOU....Congrats Heena for showing the courage to say it aloud in line with all the girls who dared to break the cocoons of Gender roles imposed upon them by the society and realised their wings within...Kudos for being the first one to post in our blog and to bag 25 points for the team as well. 3. Great words, Heena. It's high time girls break free from the shackles society has imposed upon them. We shouldn't be ashamed or scared to stand up for ourselves.
