The Women Safety in India: An important matter that has to be addressed by Aishwarya Jijikumar

India -the largest democracy in the world. The land of religious and cultural diversities. We are a developing nation moving on at an aggravating pace inorder to be a devoloped nation. Over the decades that had gone by, our nation has achieved so much. But still, are we moving towards the right path?In my perspective it is not. Development is ensured not merely by the means of technological advances and infrastructures. Of course it is important, but we wholly attain development once when we realise the importance of voice of each other, when we respect each other and when we give due importance to everyone regardless of gender, race and religion. Unless, there is a barrier that separates us.

The issue of women safety in India is a cause that has to be addressed more effectively. The heartwrenching stories of women who have been suffering atrocities of various intensities has began to occupy the headlines and editorials of national dailies nowadays. When many including me and you, are fortunate enough to lead a peaceful and prosperous life, there are many a girl children and women across our country who are conspired to live within the agony of darkness. Their downtrodden voices are echoing but it is unheard many a times. This is a menace which is an obstacle towards our journey of development.
A woman is a mother, she is a daughter, she is a sibling. She performs multiple tasks single handedly. But her efforts are unnoticed only because of the common conviction that "it is her responsibility towards family and society ".The Hathras incident, the Nirbhaya case (only to name a few) which shook our nation are nightmares. These are disgrace to whole of the Indian society. There is no sense in worshipping Goddess Durga while the womenfolk are being harassed, mentally and physically abused for the rest of the year. These issues are not going to be resolved unless there is stricter and pungent laws. The meaning of education in its deepest sense are equality and fraternity. We have to stick upon to the ideology that a girl is never less than a boy or above him. Both of them are equal. They contribute equally to the functioning of our society.
So let us recognize the efforts and plights of women of our country. Providing safe and secure environment for women is the need of the hour. They may seem vulnerable at many circumstances but their magnanimity and sheer spirit are ignited only when they are safeguarded by the society. All together it is our responsibility. Empowered women and men are an asset to any nation and it is that realization which intiates the beginning for an opulent society.

"A woman is a full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform."
                              - Diane Mariechild.
