Significance of The Title, 'Can You Make Out ' by Devika Saju

The poem “Can you make out” by Kumar Vikal can be considered as an outcry against violence carried out in the name of religion and caste. The title is significant because the poem discusses about the situation where the blood lies splattered on the road and we are unable to identify whether the blood belongs to Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or Christian. What we know is, it belongs to a human. The poet portrays various instances to depict the atrocities of riots. The ordinary people are the one who is mostly affected by the riots. We may be able to console them but we couldn’t wipe their inner cries. They lose their loved ones and find it very difficult to recover from the aftermath of riots. The poet portray that the riots are creating destructions and pull the people down to poverty rather than sowing the seeds of peace.
