Competition with Compatibility- By Fathima Heena Hasmi

We often say competitions lead to better development of oneself or to make a better person the best. Competition, meaning comparison made concerning for to a numbered grade. Competitions are an eternal part of life, neither we can choose to not stay in it nor can we ace every competition we face in life. The repetitive process wherein the urge to perform the best is to such greater extents that we often don't consider the most important part of it, humanity, the generosity, the acceptance of the fact that the process is going to favour one over another is often left out.

The natural human tendency of considering themselves above others often hinders the moto of competitions. The sole purpose of competitions is to bring the best out of oneself. Being said that, it does not mean that one's performance defines their entire existence nor does it define one's capability to be successful in life. Competition is good, but competing without considering the other may be harmful for both. When considering the case of Jesse Owens and Lez Long, even though Lez Long was an Aryan and an opponent of Jesse Owens, Lez Long helped Jesse Owens by giving tips to overcome his problems in the Olympics. And when Jesse won by outshining Lez with the advice given by Lez, Lez never felt jealous, instead greeted Jesse with warm heart. This incident teaches us how to be compatible in competitions.

Acceptance and compatibility in this entire process is just one’s acceptance of his or her abilities and what one is made for; irrespective of the external grids which tend to bring limitations to one’s creativity.
